How Many People Sew For You?

All hand-sewn items are sewn by me (otherwise it wouldn’t be ‘Stitched by JessaLu’  ) on an industrial Singer that was manufactured in 1932 or a Model 15-91 Singer sewing machine that was manufactured in 1937  in a smoke-less and cat-less home (but not dog-less, though they're little and aren't allowed in the sewing room).

I have a helper that works two days a week doing ironing and bag prep – and sometimes during show season my husband (aka ‘Boothbait’) rolls up his sleeves and gets to work cutting fabric and interfacing.

When you purchase from SbJL, you are supporting my family directly, and we appreciate it very much!

You can see pictures of my sewing machine here. My machine isn’t fancy, it doesn’t have the ability to do a lockstitch edge but she’s a workhorse and I love her. She does the job while my fancy new Singer sits in the closet, not working.

What Bag Shapes & Sizes Are Available?

Box Bag dimensions:

Regular: 7.5″ long, 3.5″ high, 4.5″ wide – large enough to hold a sock project or a spindle. Handles are long enough to fit over your wrist.

Large: 12″ long, 4″ high and 6″ wide – just the right size to hold a larger project

Wedge Bag dimensions:

Regular Wedge: 11″ wide, 6″ tall and 3″ wide at the bottom. The perfect size for socks in progress or a similarly sized project.

Tall Wedge: 11″ wide, 10″ tall and 4″ wide at the bottom. This size allows for you to fold open the top of your bag while you’re working on your project, and is a bit more roomy for a shawl, hat, heavy socks or larger accessories.

Large Wedge: 15″ wide, 10″ tall and 4″ wide at the bottom. This size will easily fit a sweater-in progress or (very) large shawl

Gigantic (TWSS) Wedge: Approximately 19″ long, 14″ high and 5″ wide at the bottom. This size is perfect to tote an afghan in progress, the biggest of big sweaters, most of what you’d stash under your kitchen sink, or an average sized toddler (not kidding, it really is that big!). Get ready to say ‘Whoa, that’s …big.’ when you open your package!

LONG Wedge Dimensions: 15″ wide, 7″ tall and 4″ wide at the bottom. This size will easily fit a smaller sweater, a two-color hat/mitten/scarf project or large shawl.

Bucket Bag dimensions:

SbJL is home of the ORIGINAL bucket bag! Often imitated but never duplicated. ;o)

Regular: 7″ tall, 4.5″ wide and 3.5″ deep

Spindle Bag dimensions:

One Size: 12.5″ long, 3.5″ wide, 3.5″ tall

What Are the Possible Uses for a SbJL Bag?

My bags have several possible uses, including:

  • Knitting/Crochet project bag
  • Notions bag
  • Purse organizer bag (keep the essentials inside a regular wedge and switch that between purses)
  • Trip ‘keep busy’ bag for children (keep special toys they can only play with during a trip in SbJL bags)
  • Lunch or Snack bags
  • Makeup bag
  • DnD dice bag
  • Magic The Gathering card bag
  • The possibilities are endless!

If you have a new idea for how to use your SbJL bag, let me know! :o)

I like a print, but you don't have it listed in the size/shape I'd like, what do I do?

If there is a specific print you are looking for, please contact me! If you see a print in the shop that you’d like in a bucket, spindle, or large bag, let me know and I’ll see what I can do! Thank you!

How long before you ship my bag to me?

If you have a question about shipping times, please check my shop policies.  Thank you!

I'd like to add, please note that I am the only full-time employee of SbJL and I do all of it – social media, fabric prep (washing, drying, ironing, cutting, and pressing) for each bag, and sewing each bag. There are times that my shipping window will extend to 10 business days (the Spring and Fall show seasons, and Holiday season are three of these times), and special orders that need fabric ordered will take at minimum two weeks, usually three. Please plan your gift giving accordingly and if you need it quicker, leave a note when you check out, thank you for understanding! I appreciate you all, and wish I could do all of this faster! <3

Can I request a custom order?

I am MORE THAN HAPPY to do custom orders!  If you see two fabrics on two different bags in the shop that you think will make a lovely bag for yourself, or if you have a general color/print idea kicking around and would like to design your own SbJL bag please don’t hesitate to contact me! (please note that custom requests are for fabric only – I cannot take requests for custom bag designs at this time and if I do not have the fabric in stock this will add significantly to the delivery estimate).

Where do you get your fabric?

Well, specific details are a secret that I keep to myself. If I told everyone where I shop, there wouldn't be any left for me to make awesome bags for you! ;)

I will say that with some of my geek prints, I work with a graphic designer to create one of a kind prints that are only available at SbJL. I also have branched out and created a few prints on my own (for example, the Tolkien prints are my own layout)

Otherwise, I spend entirely too much time shopping for fabric, looking for new prints to add to the shop. ;)
